Thinking of buying a mk2?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, owned vx's for a fair while now and have gone through most of the range. For some strange reason I am finding myself strangely attracted to the good old 80's classic, but was hoping for a bit more info on them first.

First of all i'm looking at one with about 50,000 warranted miles and tidy bodywork for around the £150 mark, it's an 82(x) and its only the 1.6. Is this a fair price to be paying?

Secondly the 1.6 would have to go, probably in favour of a 2.0 8v from the mk3/calibra. How much of a ballache would it be to do and has anyone done it before?

And finally for now ;) the bottom of the front bumper looks rusted, are these an easy replacement or is it a case of fixing it with plates and putty?

Thanks guys, and hope to spend many an hour either under the bonnet of a mk2 or on here, asking what to do under the bonnet!!

Welcome, good decision.

An X reg 1.6L went for £170 on ebay last week so the price is right.

Bigger engines slot in OK as do brakes etc. You can still get front valences so you could patch it and cover it with a plastic front from mid or late life versions.
