End of an era

Just seen vboa post for this years show

And sad to say with the way it appears to be this will be the first time in 15 odd years  that i will not be attending

Back to billing but no tents that will kill the show in one simple step

I honestly think they'll run with this for one year and see how the numbers go. If it bombs it'll move yet again! The tramping between sites, no drinking, no doubt queues to get in & out every day & night will be a disaster and totally unworkable.

I feel sorry for the regulars who go every year, I've missed alot more than I've attended,  but the ones I have made it to, except the flood one, were all highly entertaining.  I'm struggling to understand why vboa have returned to billing under such onerous terms, given the way they dumped all the car clubs a few years back. While I understand businesses make mistakes, to allow these events back on this basis shows no care at all for the clubs concerned or their members, and is simply a way of generating business. When camping was available, people had choices and I'm sure that would have been reflected in the cost of hiring a caravan/ pod for the weekend.  Now they have control. I hope members of all the vboa affiliated clubs do the right thing and say no thanks.  On a positive note, I guess it gives me another year to attempt to get the car roadworthy again.

Dare i mention Market Harb where it all went well, site was easy and laid out, ok it was just a field but thats all a car show needs

Agree 1st mh was bad but short notice etc

2nd mh was good centre ring with entertainment if wamted and camping club stands toilet situation improved as well only downside really was a bit dusty

but

For whatever reasons the decision to move to sywell was made

It might be a good idea to can it this year and re-format in another location. It all depends on how other events dilute (or not) the scene. Vauxfest is criticised for being in an odd part of the country, vaux-all seems to be gathering momentum so does the GM Reunion although only one day it looked to be a big success last year with calls for it to be expanded into a two day event. If vboa go ahead and cancel now this year the other venues will likley mop up.

I rang them a few days ago, it’s no camping on site at all now, and the little glamping pods I stayed in the last two years in a row, £100 for 3 nights, are now gone, replaced with bigger, luxury ones at a cost of £500 - £700.

Probably won’t have a Vaux anyway, the Opel’s being broken and my Carlton’s up for sale soon 🙄

Who in their right mind would pay £700 to go on holiday in Northampton?

I can't understand how they ever thought it would be a good idea to go without camping.

I believe they left MH because LMF were making money rather than them.

What would Gordon do?

No camping is moronic....jog on.

So....lets find another weekend/show to try and get the club into.

What's to stop us booking a farmers field camp site to camp and we all just happen to have cavaliers? Same thing,  it's a social and maybe a drive out in the day  to some local places.

This is my take. Checking on Google maps the site is on one of the commuter routes I used in the past. Passing Billing on the same route.

The camping site is a big field that hosts occasional car shows. Very conveniently located about 600m from an A43 roundabout, with an Aldi, on the road to Sywell.

As with Sywell Airfield, VBOA will be contracting for all the services but has more flexibility. But no licenced bar, like the hanger, or indeed any permanent buildings. The pub that many went to in Sywell for a meal is twice the distance.

As some of you may be  aware, the previous post concerning this years event was deleted. A venue was found but at the last minute they pulled the offer of camping on site. Not ideal but, sorting anything else at such a late stage presented an impossible task. The collective representatives from each club voted in favour of going ahead (speak to your reps if you are unaware of this).

Returning to sywell has not been a possibility as on going price increases from across the board has made it impossible to sustain for the VBOA finances and the team as a whole. We have to make it clear that the VBOA national rally is not a commercial venture, it is ran by a small group of volunteers for the association of clubs it represents to bring us all together and offer something unique.

The committee has took on board everyone’s comments from the initial venue release and have had a major rethink and manic rally round with various contacts to keep the important get-together going.

Everything will be set in the same sort of arrangement as it was at Sywell. The track action will not be on offer as the site does not allow.

The only thing we cannot cater for is hotels. However there are several hotels nearby as well as the caravan / glamping pods at billing aquadrome. We are hoping that the site will be accessible Thursday afternoon for everyone and as such we will be offering access and camping on Thursday evening.

(Note from John, GreyDJ) Billing about 10 minutes away)

The ticketing system will be simplified into day tickets and camping tickets. You will need to purchase day tickets for the days you are attending and camping tickets for the nights you will be staying over.

We hope that this satisfies the majority of needs and we can move forward to making this rally as good if not better than past years!

Lewis Price      (Note from John, GreyDJ prices not yet official.)
So Thurs and Sun nights are £5 each.
Day tickets £10 camping Fri and Sat nights £10 per night.
All per person.
Non club members all more expensive.
