September 7, 201016 yr comment_139594 Hi, Just got myself a D reg mk2 cabrio and looking forward to enjoying it. Just a few things I could do with help for a start...... Firstly what is the engine known as? ( I have heard of 18E, 18SE, C18NE etc) but I dont know which I have. It appears to have the LE Jetronic injection but this is supposed to be pre 1987 according to the Haynes manual. Also it runs a bit rough and Idle speed starts off at around 1000rpm increasing to 1300 as it gets warmer! Any ideas chaps? TIA Report
September 7, 201016 yr comment_139597 welcome to the mad house... i would think it will be a 1.8e on the age you talk of, but the experts on here will no doubt put me right. Your idling problem may be the idle air control valve, but i cant tell you where it is as i aint that clever, someone will i'm sure post you a picture of where it is and what you need to do Report
September 7, 201016 yr comment_139599 Firstly, welcome to the site.Your car will have either a 1.8E or 1.8SE engine, both were fitted with the LE Jetronic ignition. You can tell the difference most easily by the distributor cap. If the leads come straight out of the cap it is a 1.8E if they come out at a right angle it is a 1.8SE. Report

September 8, 201016 yr comment_139604 Welcome to the site mate.As Jimmy said, If it looks like the pic he posted its an 18SEIf it looks like this its an 18EThe arrow is to the aux air valve that controls your idle. Give that a clean out with carb cleaner and check for any split hoses either on that or from the afm to the throttle What would Gordon do? Report
September 8, 201016 yr Author comment_139605 Wow, Thanks for the quick responses guys. You seem to know your stuff. Yes, it will be the 18e so now I know which service parts to get. I will have a play with that air valve and see what happens Report
