A little dissappointed

I went to the rolling road today and would have liked  to see at least 160bhp with the little sri 130 exhaust fitted and a bit more with the system removed.

MODs are

power cap

blue zafira injectors

chipped ECU

cams and pullies

air filter

well it made loads less than that.

thats not the dissapointment though the dissapointment was that it was a 1600cc exhaust thats been fitted!!

the reason i asked for a sri130 exhaust as thats the biggest pipe work you can get for a cav without going to a made up system, plus i wante dthe quite ride more than looks or power, so im happy that it made nearly standard power on that little exhaust but even more upsetting is that the exhaust is a bit of a lash up to get it on the downpipe, as it has a restriction in the front where the large 16v downpipe meets the 1600cc system.

instead of putting a larger pipe over the two parts they have fitted a small pipe inside!

oh well... so now to fitting the carbs and going back next week  and comparing inj to carbs :-\

dont be disapointed mate, all these things are fixable and at least you know the reason. would it not be worse if the result was the same and you didnt have the poor exhaust...you'll get there and i suspect a long time before me ;D

bloody 'ell guys i forgot about this thread.

i took it back on carbs and it made 177bhp running a little rich midrange and very rich at 5200rpm up.

if i set the cams up and set the carbs up then the rolling road reckon its an easy 185bhp engine.

trouble is its about 2-5hours on the rollers and i dont want to pay £80 per hour id rather put the money into fiting the engine in the mx5 and use the power thats there, plus the rings need doing as its a bit smoky around 4000rpm upwards, well its like a two stroke if im being honest!

its a strong engine even if its a bit smoky so im going to fit rings and have it for the mx5

the cav is defo coming off the road end of september and im going to fit the turbo engine over the winter, its meant to be 240bhp and if its less ill dump the piggy back ecu, get a better turbo, injectors etc and get an emerald ecu and take it closer to 300+ or sell it and fit a 1600cc small block and hide all the wires and flush all the engine bay PROPER tartish i know but i love the golfs and corsa when they do it.
